Rabbi Jessica Yarkin was born in London, England. She majored in English Literature in college, always relishing a good story and the investigation of the human spirit.
In 2005-06, Jessica volunteered in Israel with project Otzma, and she then extended her stay to study at PARDES in 2006-07. It was during this time that surrounding peers
starting saying things to her like: “Why aren’t you thinking of becoming a Rabbi?” That idea slowly spread to her heart. After a year working as a Jewish professional for Hillel at the University of Florida, Jessica enrolled at the Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies in California where she embraced her career path.
While in rabbinical school, Jessica sought community and found it here at Adat Ari El, where she taught 6th grade, received invaluable mentorship, and created lasting relationships. She also relished being a spiritual leader for Valley Ruach Young Professionals, many of whose members are thrilled for her return.
After graduating from Ziegler in 2014, Jessica became Rabbi for Community Engagement at Congregation Herzl Ner Tamid in Seattle, Washington. There she assumed multiple fulfilling roles, working closely with the Hebrew school, leading the women’s Rosh Chodesh experience, establishing a group for congregants in their 20s and 30s, teaching an array of teen and adult education classes, and working to ensure that USY and Kadima flourish.
Jessica feels tremendously blessed to be returning to her community at Adat Ari El as our Assistant Rabbi, and looks to be an integral and invaluable part of our spiritual community on many levels, helping us foster a lifelong commitment to Judaism throughout the congregation within today’s ever-evolving, endlessly renewing world.
