Adult Education and Programming for 5776
This year, our adult studies will focus on Jewish literacy – building greater competence in both the texts and practices of Judaism. We will be offering a variety of classes that can be taken separately or together. Each class represents a building block in being Jewishly literate. No prior knowledge required. Unless otherwise stated, classes are taught by Rabbi Bernhard, Rabbi Silver or Brodie Aberson, our Rabbinic intern.
Shabbat Morning Shiur - Wisdom of our Ancestors
Shabbat Mornings, 9:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. - Wynn Room
We will explore the timeless wisdom of Pirkei Avot – The Sayings of the Fathers. Learn from the great minds who first created Judaism about how to live, think and find fulfillment.
Shabbat Lunchtime Shiur - The First Book of Samuel
2nd & 4th Shabbat, After Kiddush – Deiber Chapel
It’s the Biblical book that has everything: kings & prophets, holiness & intrigue, love & death. And yet – how well do we really know it? This twice-monthly class will familiarize you with one of the most fascinating (and sometimes racy) chapters in the history of our people.
Torah on Tuesdays
Tuesday afternoons, 12:00 p.m. – Wynn Room
Bring lunch and join Rabbi Jonathan Jaffe Bernhard as we continue to eavesdrop on the conversations of the medieval commentators – Rashi, Rashbam, Ibn Ezra and Ramban – about the book of Exodus.
The Friday Mishnah
Friday Mornings – 8:15 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. – Deiber Chapel
Got 15 minutes? Every Friday morning after services we will learn something short and sweet from the 2nd century tractate Berakhot. As well as blessings, this section includes how and when to read the Shema, as well as providing a fascinating picture of our lives of the early Rabbis.
